The Eku Baptist Hospital since 1945 has extended medical and spiritual help to the Delta part of Nigeria. This area has many medical needs that provide doorways of opportunity for trained medical professionals to volunteer their support, knowledge, and talents. This includes` primary care doctors, dentist, surgeons, and specialist in major areas of trauma, eyes, orthopedics, internal, and pediatrics. There are also opportunities for others that are skilled in nursing training, medical tech training, structural upgrade, facility repair, and electrical, electronic/computer, and equipment technical training. We continue to facilitate teams of volunteers that present Jesus Christ’s love and compassion through medical care and other outreaches. Professional abilities to show, tell, and do current medical procedures and upgrades are especially appreciated by the young staff and learning doctors and nurses. It is a good place also for medical students to gain firsthand experience in a general tropical hospital setting, working with leprosy, treating multiple trauma situations, engaging in interesting cases of obstetrics, maternity, pediatrics, and women specialties which provide excellent experience for their future.

This work is built on the foundation of Matthew 4:23, “and Jesus went about teaching, preaching, and healing.” For over 65 years this has continued even when recently the governor accepted the operational management and specifically stated that the “culture of the beginning would remain and be the only hospital that would be both mission and government.” This hospital is renowned for its quality of help and for the soul winning activity in the area lead by the Chaplains. For many years the hospital has served the area around Eku, other areas of Nigeria, and even other countries. The hospital generated the creation of a Nursing School, a Seminary, a Tuberculosis and Leper Colony, and multiple churches and preaching stations.

Eku Baptist Hospital is the heart of the Eku village. The people cry out “please don’t let the hospital die.” It has a great tradition of meeting the spiritual and physical needs of the people. It is a seed that has grown into a large tree offering multiple seeds for other ministries and outreaches for the area.

It is located in the Delta State of Nigeria, West Africa between the larger towns of Warri and Sapele and the university city of Abraka. It is close to the equator and part of the many tributaries of the Niger River that flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It is an English speaking country.
